Role Overview
The MEAL Assistant supports high-quality programming by ensuring robust systems for monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning are embedded across projects.
You will help design and use data collection tools, verify activity progress against indicators, manage feedback channels, and contribute to timely reporting.
Accuracy in documentation, adherence to humanitarian standards, and responsive communication with communities and teams are critical to success in this role.
What are the Key Duties & Responsibilities of a MEAL Assistant at Jireh Doo Foundation?
- Field Monitoring: Assist in implementing monitoring activities to track progress against project indicators and work plans.
- Data Collection & Tools: Support completion of data collection tools, needs assessments, and beneficiary verification.
- Beneficiary Selection Support: Organize assessments for refugee and host families to enable transparent, coherent selection.
- Criteria & Scoring: Work with the Senior MEAL Officer to refine selection criteria and vulnerability scoring frameworks.
- Spot Checks & Briefings: Perform spot checks on implementation quality and prepare concise briefs for MEAL and program units.
- Data Quality Assurance: Maintain regular contact with field staff to ensure timely, accurate data collection and transmission.
- Capacity Building: Train and support enumerators and volunteers on data collection protocols, ethics, and device use.
- Accountability Mechanisms: Organize and coordinate complaints and feedback systems (hotlines, help desks) to donor and JDF standards.
- Follow-up: Track complaints/requests and ensure timely resolution and documentation.
- Reporting: Contribute to weekly/monthly progress updates, and support donor and internal reporting as needed.
- Data Management: Enter, clean, store, and analyze data on Activity Info and other platforms; create charts/graphs in Excel.
- Other Duties: Carry out additional MEAL tasks assigned by the Senior MEAL Officer or management.
What are the Qualifications & Experience Needed to Become a MEAL Assistant at Jireh Doo Foundation?
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 1 to 2 years of relevant experience (e.g., monitoring & evaluation, case management, social/outreach work); deep-field/WFP exposure is an advantage.
- Technical: Solid grasp of MEAL concepts; experience with quantitative and qualitative methods; basic database management.
- Digital Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, charts), Word, and PowerPoint; comfortable with data entry tools.
- Humanitarian Literacy: Understanding of humanitarian principles and standards for assessments, monitoring, and accountability.
- Context: Familiarity with the Nigerian humanitarian context is desirable.
